Dick and James Strawbridge have just finished their latest book on ‘Practical Self Sufficiency’ and the US edition called ‘Self Sufficiency for the 21st Century’. It includes everything you need to know about modern-day self-sufficient living from the stars of the BBC series – It’s Not Easy Being Green. Dick & James Strawbridge want to save  you money on your fuel bills, get you ready to grow your own food, reduce your carbon footprint, and take the self-sufficient plunge.

In this gorgeous new book Dick and James Strawbridge show how to make the practical changes that will have a big impact on your life – without having to transform your lifestyle. Sharing their experiences, tips and techniques, the Strawbridges provide all the step-by-step advice you need for successful eco projects, large and small. Learn to grow your own fruit & veg, make a wormery, build a chicken ark, install solar panels and more. Each undertaking is realistic, achievable and sustainable. You won’t need to go the whole hog – just pick and mix to suit your needs, for long-lasting dividends.

DICK STRAWBRIDGE

JAMES STRAWBRIDGE

Dick Strawbridge is an energetic and versatile television presenter. A retired Lieutenant Colonel, and man of many interests, you may know him from his 'Scrapheap' days, ‘Coast, or from his popular BBC2 series on sustainable living and eco-technology 'It's not easy being green'.

Over the last couple of years Dick has been involved in an exciting range of programmes, recently returning to his engineering roots as the new presenter of 'Scrapheap Challenge'. Dick is also an exceptional chef and this year has been seen competing in the prestigious BBC show ‘Celebrity Master Chef’.

When he is not TV presenting, Dick lives on his smallholding at Newhouse Farm in Cornwall and runs courses in leadership and teamwork, lectures at schools and colleges, and makes after dinner speeches

James Strawbridge specialised in environmental history at the University of York and gained a 1st class degree. He particular enjoyed studying anthropology and how historically people classify nature and their environment.

Whilst at university James also started his TV career with ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green’ for BBC2. Click on TV Presenter for details of recent series he has been involved with.

Now James lives on a smallholding in Cornwall called Newhouse Farm and spends his time split between media projects and managing the land. Digging the earth, growing fruit and vegetables and rearing livestock keep him fit and healthy and have enabled him to learn about sustainability and self-sufficiency on a practical level.

In his spare time James also works as ‘sustainable workshop co-ordinator’ for the educational charity Wastebusters.
